Two Brothers-in-Law Meeting

Collected by Julia Averkieva from the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) of Vancouver Island, Canada. This design represents two brothers-in-law who do not trust each other. They stand in opposite corners of a room.

Step 3 - 2 and 3, from below, enter the 1 loops; 2 and 3 tilt toward the center, pushing back all three 1f strings, then 2 and 3 trap transverse 1f between them; 3, with the help of 2, hooks down transverse 1f, drawing it down through the remaining 1 loops, which slips off 2 and 3 as they return; 3 presses against the palm, thus creating a hooked 3 loop; 45 joins 3 in hooking down its loop.
