Sun, Moon, and Star

Collected by Julia Averkieva from the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) of Vancouver Island, Canada. According to legend it was Raven who placed Sun, Moon, and Stars in the sky. At the beginning of the world the sun was kept in a box owned by Gull-Woman. Raven tricked her and thus gained possession of the box, which he opened.

Step 9 - Rotate the entire pattern a quarter turn clockwise as follows: L5 withdraws from the L345 loop, then L5 removes the R345 loop, entering the loop from the knuckle side; R45 removes the R1 loop, entering the loop from the fingertip side; R1 removes the L1 loop, entering from the knuckle side; L1 removes the L34 loop, entering the loop from the fingertip side; withdraw R4 from the R45 loop and extend gently; you have "Sun" on the right, and "Moon and Star" on the left.
