The Beluga
(Alaska to Hudson Bay)

1. Opening A.

2. Bend 3 down into 5 loops from above. R3 passes toward you under 5n and 2f, proximally enters R2 loop, hooks up R2n and returns to an upright position.  Simultaneously, L3 passes under L5n and both 2 strings, hooks up L1f, and returns to an upright position (fig. 46a). Release 5 loop, then bend 3 down and close it to palm. Distally Insert 4 and 5 beside 3 in its loop and close them to palm.

3.Bring L2 to the right and hook up the string indicated in fig. 46b. You now have two L2 loops.

4. Remove R3 from the R345 loop, raise R3 so that it proximally enters the R1 loop, pushing back R1f. R3 then hooks down the two L2n strings to the R palm, on the near side of the R1f (fig. 46c).

5. Remove L3 from the left 345 loop and proximally insert it  into L2 loops, with its palm hook up R1f before it crosses the double R3 loops, drawing it back through L2 loops (fig. 45d).

6. Bend L1 down and pass it distally through L3 loop, then proximally pick up R2n on the back of L1 after it passes around the L2f loop. Navajo L1 so the only loop on it is the one just picked up (fig. 46e).

7. Release R1 loop and pull it and its strings out of the way to the left  Proximally transfer L1 loop to R1 (fig. 46f).

8.  Direct your attention to the string running between R1n and R2n (fig. 46g).  It passes through a loop from L2f.  Pass L1 under L2n - R3n strings and the R1n - R2n string on the near side of the loop. L1 picks up the R1n - R2n string on the far side of the loop and draws it toward the body. Release loops from 2 and 3. Extending the figure produces The Beluga (fig. 46h).

9. There is a diamond in the center of The Beluga composed of doubled strings.  Insert 2 and 3 from the far side between the two upper diagonal strings on their side of the figure and hook up 1n with 2.   Rotate 2 to an upright position with an Index Twist (fig. 46i).  Release 1 loops and extend. This is fig. 46j, The Beluga Hung Up to Dry.
